Ramzy Haddad known to many, as DJ Ramzy has been DJ’ing throughout the Washington Area. Ramzy works a 9 to 5 by day and pursue his dreams by night. He is totally committed to following his dreams of being the best DJ in the area.
Q. At what age and when did you get started DJ’ing?
A. I got introduced into DJing at age 15. My
uncle used to be a DJ in Miami, FL and then he moved to MD to start a family and all that. One day, he took me with him on one of his gigs, and I didn't even start to try to learn until about 6 months later. I started out by just cross-fading songs and eventually practicing mixing... I used really crappy cd players that always skipped and never kept the same speed; so mixing was very difficult on those cd players.
Q. Okay you have to tell me about the women that fainted at your show.
A. After about 2 1/2 or 3 years after training with my uncle, I started to do gigs on my own at the age of 17. On my very first show, a girl ended up fainting and I had to shut down about an hour early, so I took that as a sign that maybe I shouldn't be DJing (haha).
Q. How did you get your start in the industry?
A. I started out by doing tour groups, company picnics, middle and elementary school parties (low risk shows) and eventually, the company that I worked for, Bristol Sounds, started to put me in gigs that they needed to make a good first impression on. I became 'that' DJ that went out to get new business along with my uncle. I felt honored, and all by the age of 20/21.
Q. When did you get your first club gig?
A. In February of 2008, I had my first club gig in DC at the Muse Lounge with some promoters that I knew. They were basically giving me my foot in the door. So I had as many people that I knew come and they all supported the hell out of me. I was sharing the booth with 2 other DJs, so I knew once I started playing, I had to give it my all. Once I started DJing that night, I just went all out, pleasing the crowd. I DJed for a good hour, and then it was time to switch to the next DJ. When I stepped out of the booth, the crowd literally picked me up and cheered for me, it felt amazing. On top of that, once the other DJ started, the ENTIRE dancefloor cleared and the club owner and promoters ran up to me and told me to get back on to try to save the night. Unfortunately by that time everyone had already left.
About 2 weeks after, I got the call I have been waiting for. It was on Valentines day, I got a call from the club owner, he wanted me to play there that night. At the time, I was seeing a girl and I had to cancel on her to go play this gig, a gig that I thought would lead me to success, so I took the gig and I started DJing at the Muse lounge for the rest of 2008. From there, I DJed at a bunch of other clubs in DC including Lima, Skye, EyeBar, Lotus, Current, District, Chloe, Aqua and my most recent residency in DC is at Public Bar.
Q. Who are some of the people you have Djed for?
A. I have DJed for major stars such as The WuTang Clan, Slick Rick, Biz Markie, Pitbull, Ludacris, Methodman, Redman, EPMD, Keith Murray. My most noteable event being the rock the house festival where I was chosen to keep the whole show going. It's an amazing feeling to be up on stage in front of 2000+ people, just rocking out and them rockin out with you.
Q. How do you feel being back in Rockville DJ’ing at the Rooftop?
A. I have a very strong reputation in Rockville, MD for playing the hottest shows in the area, it feels good to arrive at a show and have a bunch of people say hi and welcome you back. It's even better to hear people talking about you saying things like "he's such a good DJ" or "his music is awesome" ... It just feels great knowing that you already have people in the crowd supporting you.
Q. I know it feel great to go from no gigs to many a week. What does you weekly schedule look like? How exited are you about DJ’ing?
A. I went from one gig a month to residency shows almost all week. I’m currently DJ Wednesday through Saturday nights along with my day job. The money is great, the crowds are awesome and the music is always exciting. I never thought I would be where I am today and I hope to only grow from here.
